Baseball Game Preview: Irvington Vikings vs. Pittsburg Pirates

The Irvington Vikings will challenge the Pittsburg Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Irvington came up short against Clayton Valley Charter and fell 6-2.

Angus Buchanan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits.

At the plate, Brayden Jaksa made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Aayush Shah also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Pittsburg put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Castro Valley a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Pirates have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Pittsburg's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Del Real, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Pittsburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.

Irvington has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. Pittsburg's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.
