Baseball Recap: Smithtown Christian Drops Season-High Score on Southold

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Smithtown Christian). Everything went their way against the Southold Settlers on Monday as they made off with a 13-2 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Quincy Gibbs made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Smithtown Christian let Luke Ruggiero and Isaiah Gibbs run wild. Ruggiero got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Gibbs went 2-for-5 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those three runs gave Ruggiero a new career-high. Caleb Calder was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Smithtown Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Smithtown Christian's victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

They will have a chance to go back-to-back against Southold: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
