League recap: Bucenell breaks off league-leading run for Wiregrass Ranch

7A District 7 recap September 17, 2013

Wiregrass Ranch's Shane Bucenell rumbled for the longest rushing play in 7A District 7 this season in his game against River Ridge last week. Bucenell scampered for 80 yards on the play and finished with 57 on the day as his team fell to the Royal Knights.

Steinbrenner was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The Warriors defeated Spoto 34-22 earlier in the week.

Jaaron Barrett was the best wideout in the league this week as Sickles defeated Newsome. Barrett tallied 4 receptions for 124 yards.

Deon Cain threw for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Ray Ray McCloud III was the most successful running back in 7A District 7 this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 197 yards as the Gryphons topped the Wolves. Issac Holder also contributed to the rushing game with 54 yards on the ground.

Cain put up the best numbers through the air as Tampa Bay Tech defeated Durant. Cain's favorite target this week was Deon Thompson, who caught 2 passes for 84 yards.

6-foot-3 quarterback Cain of the Titans is the league leader in passing yards this season with 583. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Barrett. The Sickles star has 8 catches for 177 yards.

Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Sickles' Barrett goes up against Steinbrenner's Nick Nankovitch.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Andres Perez-Reinaldo's team takes on Brian Turner's team. The Warriors are in fourth place, while the Gryphons are in first place.

Gaither lost to Plant 41-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jalen Cochran in the loss.
