Santiago had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They strolled past the Yucaipa Thunderbirds with points to spare, taking the game 31-14. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Sharks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 198th).

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santiago will challenge Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Yucaipa, they will take on Silverado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
