Basketball Recap: Ness City Takes a Loss

Ness City won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were outmatched by the Ellinwood Eagles and fell 64-22. Ness City was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ellinwood apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Ness City still got an impressive performance from Ashlyn Tillitson, who posted 17 points.

Ellinwood was led to victory by Julia Schlessiger and Alyvia Batchman. Schlessiger went 9 for 12 en route to 19 points and eight boards, while Batchman went 7 of 11 on her way to 17 points. Schlessiger is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Ritchie, who scored eight points in addition to six boards and four blocks.

Ness City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Ellinwood, their record now sits at 11-2.

Ness City will take on Wheatland-Grinnell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wheatland-Grinnell will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Ness City surely won't give up without a fight. Ellinwood has already played their next contest (against Lyons), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
