Baseball Preview: Harper Creek Beavers vs. St. Joseph Bears
The Harper Creek Beavers are taking a road trip to take on the St. Joseph Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last five games Harper Creek has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Thursday, Harper Creek didn't have quite enough to beat Williamston and fell 3-2.
Harper Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Bess, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
St. Joseph came out on top against East Lansing on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run third inning. The Bears put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 14-3 win. Considering the Bears' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Henry Church tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Bryce Vujtech was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Blayke Sicurello, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
St. Joseph kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Lansing only managed six hits.
St. Joseph now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Harper Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2-1.
