Basketball Recap: Will Szablewski Key Part of a Team Effort in Lancers Win

St. Mary hadn't done well against St. Francis recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The St. Mary's Lancers secured a 73-67 W over the St. Francis Red Raiders. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 72-59 back in January.

St. Mary's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Szablewski, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Szablewski's third in a row with at least ten points. Israel Wilson was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 22 points and five boards.

St. Mary's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11. As for St. Francis, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

St. Mary's will take on Canisius at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for St. Francis, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 83-67 defeat against Orchard Park on the 4th.
