Softball Recap: Hackley Continues Road Dominance on Friday

Hackley got themselves on the board against Riverdale Country on Friday, but Riverdale Country never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 25-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won seven in a row.

Andrea Hegarty was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Hegarty was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hackley got a massive performance out of Ellie Firsenbaum, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Brigid Doherty was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Hackley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverdale Country only posted an OBP of .222.

Hackley's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 15.9 runs thus far. As for Riverdale Country, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Hackley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 21-1 victory against Varsity Opponent on the 9th. As for Riverdale Country, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-0 defeat against Holy Child on the 7th.
