Softball Recap: Nicholas County Extends Road Winning Streak to Three

Nicholas County barely beat Woodrow Wilson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies' pitcher stepped up to hand the Flying Eagles a 17-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that victory, the Grizzlies brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Nicholas County got a massive performance out of Makenzie Hanshaw, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Hanshaw a new career-high. Aubrey Clark was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Nicholas County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Nicholas County's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Woodrow Wilson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-12.

Coming up, Nicholas County will take on PikeView at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Grizzlies surely won't give up without a fight. As for Woodrow Wilson, they will challenge Greenbrier East at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.13 runs per game on average), something the Flying Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
