California high school baseball: Rancho Bernardo and Central Catholic sluggers top state home run leaderboard

Kevin Takeuchi and Braxton Thomas have each hit 11 home runs this season.

Seniors Kevin Takeuchi of Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) and Braxton Thomas of Central Catholic (Modesto) lead California high school baseball in home runs with 11 home runs each according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

Takeuchi is hitting .524 and has cranked five home runs over the last seven games for the No. 16 team in the state. He is helping the Broncos through one last CIF San Diego Section playoff run before heading to USC in the fall.

Central Catholic is one game away from the Sac-Joaquin Section final with Thomas hitting .474 on the season. The first baseman's bat has been a key force in the lineup all season. In a five-game stretch between March 17 and April 1, Thomas homered in four of them and hit .611 in that span.

Isac Mandujano of Dos Palos is third on the leaderboard with 10 home runs. The senior has his squad in the second round of the CIF Central Section playoffs and has hit .575 on the season. From April 12-May 2, Mandujano hit home runs in eight of nine contests.
