Softball Game Preview: Mater Dei Monarchs vs. Santa Margarita Eagles

The Mater Dei Monarchs will head out on the road to square off against the Santa Margarita Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mater Dei 3.3, Santa Margarita 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Mater Dei came into their game last Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 7-0 to Orange Lutheran. The Monarchs haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Meanwhile, Santa Margarita sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over JSerra Catholic on Thursday.

Mater Dei's loss dropped their record down to 14-10-1. As for Santa Margarita, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7-1 record this season.

Mater Dei skirted past Santa Margarita 7-5 in their previous matchup on April 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
