Softball Recap: Knightstown Find Success

Knightstown hadn't done well against Cambridge City Lincoln recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Panthers skirted past the Golden Eagles 12-11. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 5-4 win the Golden Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mae Hersberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Hersberger was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Knightstown let Jaycie Cole and Lanee Swindell run wild. Cole got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Swindell went 3-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base.

Knightstown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Knightstown back to even at 3-3. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Looking ahead, Knightstown will take on Union County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, they will challenge Shenandoah at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Golden Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
