Baseball Recap: Marianna Sets Scoring Season-High Against Blountstown

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marianna). They walked away with an 18-13 victory over the Blountstown Tigers on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-5 last Wednesday.

Marianna got a massive performance out of Parker Willis, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Willis has become a key player for Marianna: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landon Cornelius, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Marianna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Marianna has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. Blountstown is on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Looking ahead, Marianna will head out to face off against Arnold at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Arnold will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Marianna surely won't give up without a fight. As for Blountstown, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Destin at 3:00 p.m. Blountstown has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
