Yorktown is 2-8 against Kenedy since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats face off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Saturday, Yorktown had just enough and edged out Cole 13-11. The contest marked the Wildcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.
The team relied heavily on Lorelai Gowens, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Amaya Luna also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Yorktown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Kenedy sidestepped Poteet for a 10-9 win. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by just one run.
Kayla Salas was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Mariah Jackson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Kenedy's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Yorktown, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Yorktown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Kenedy struggles in that department as they've averaged .585. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Yorktown's way against Kenedy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Yorktown made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Yorktown since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
