Basketball Game Preview: Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons vs. Overton Eagles

Wilcox-Hildreth is 1-9 against Overton since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons challenge the Overton Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wilcox-Hildreth saw some tournament action on Monday. They put the hurt on Sumner-Eddyville-Miller with a sharp 45-20 victory. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Madison Bunger, who posted 18 points. Katelyn Bunger was another key player, putting up nine points.

Meanwhile, Overton strolled past Axtell with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 51-35.

Wilcox-Hildreth better keep an eye on Daisy Ryan. She was instrumental in Overton's win, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Halynn Hughes, who earned eight points and five steals.

Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 39 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 48 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Overton has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-6.

Wilcox-Hildreth came up short against Overton in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 45-32. Can Wilcox-Hildreth avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
