Basketball Recap: East Mountain Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Maya Cheney and Jodie Tillman

East Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jemez Valley Warrior.

Despite the defeat, East Mountain had strong showings from Jodie Tillman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds, and Maya Cheney, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cheney a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Kannolt, who posted six points and six steals.

Even though they lost, East Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

East Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Jemez Valley, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

East Mountain will host Oak Grove Classical Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. East Mountain is facing Oak Grove Classical Academy at the right time seeing as Oak Grove Classical Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Jemez Valley, they will venture away from home to face off against Roy/Mosquero at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Roy/Mosquero knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 games -- so hopefully Jemez Valley likes a good challenge.
