Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Wheaton Academy

Wheaton Academy entered their tilt with Taft on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Eagles.

Wheaton Academy got a great performance from Carson Miller as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Miller a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dom Murrell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Wheaton Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 13-1 (and 7-13 when he doesn't). Jackson From was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Wheaton Academy's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-14. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Taft, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-17 record this season.

Wheaton Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against West Aurora at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Taft, they will head out to face off against Kaneland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
