Basketball Recap: Mason Mortimer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sutherland over Maxwell

Sutherland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 52-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maxwell Wildcats. The Sailors were probably out for revenge after losing 37-35 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Sutherland lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mason Mortimer, who posted 11 points and six boards. Tristan Maxcy was another key player, putting up six points and seven rebounds.

Among those leading the charge was Jesse Reyes, who scored 12 points along with six boards and five assists. Those five assists gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Owen Pagel, who had six points and five rebounds.

Sutherland's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Maxwell, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.

Sutherland will welcome Garden County on Tuesday. As for Maxwell, they will face off against Maywood/Hayes Center at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
