Basketball Recap: St. Mary Central Catholic Comes Up Short

St. Mary Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Gibsonburg Golden Bears 55-12. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-10.

Gibsonburg found their leader in sophomore Elly Evarts, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Evarts' evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansley Fleming, who posted 12 points.

St. Mary Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Gibsonburg, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5.

Looking ahead, St. Mary Central Catholic will host Hopewell-Loudon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Gibsonburg, they will head out to face off against Woodmore at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Woodmore will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Gibsonburg surely won't give up without a fight.
