Baseball Game Preview: West Broward Bobcats vs. St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders

The West Broward Bobcats will face off against the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with West Broward sitting on five straight wins and St. Thomas Aquinas on four.

West Broward will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Stoneman Douglas, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bobcats came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 9-5 on Wednesday.

AJ Cruz was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Sergio Garcia, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas Aquinas sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Chaminade-Madonna on Wednesday.

Brady Gollan looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, St. Thomas Aquinas saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Merrell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. Trace Zalman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

West Broward's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. West Broward hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Thomas Aquinas struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

West Broward suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to St. Thomas Aquinas in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
