The Scott Skyhawks will challenge the Clay County Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clay County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Scott, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, Scott needed a bit of extra time to put away Charleston Catholic. They had just enough and edged out the Irish 5-4. That's two games straight that the Skyhawks have won by just one run.
Scott's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ian Prince, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Midland Trail hit Clay County with a five-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots.
Luke Stewart got Clay County off to a strong start despite the final result, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Stewart has allowed since back in April.
On the hitting side, Pierce Adkins was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Scott and bumps their season record up to 15-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Clay County, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Scott has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Clay County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Scott got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 against Clay County by a conclusive 14-2 score. Will the Skyhawks repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
