The Kent Island Buccaneers are taking a road trip to square off against the Decatur Seahawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Kent Island took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on North Caroline with a sharp 12-3 win.
Abby Mahaffey was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Decatur waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Clippers as they made off with a 13-1 victory.
Emily Blume made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Blume was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Lily Rados looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Snelsire, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Riley Hertzog also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Decatur pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kent Island, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kent Island has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Decatur struggles in that department as they've averaged .532. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kent Island might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from Decatur in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
