Basketball Recap: John Paul Vogel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jersey over Civic Memorial

Jersey lost against Civic Memorial back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Jersey Panthers lost 66-45 to the Civic Memorial Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Eagles are ranked 176th).

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was John Paul Vogel, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 10 points. Jaxon Brunaugh was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Civic Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Riley Lamb led the charge by as he made all 7 shots he took for 16 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of August Frankford, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards.

Jersey's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Civic Memorial, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-6.

Jersey has already played their next game, a 59-56 defeat against Jacksonville on the 20th. As for Civic Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-37 win against Nokomis on the 18th.
