East Nicolaus gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Quincy Trojans. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day East Nicolaus got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-15, 22-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-12.

East Nicolaus found their leader in sophomore Sydney Anderson, who had ten digs and two aces.

East Nicolaus was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 30 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Quincy still got an impressive performance from Lilah Cudia, who had 13 digs and two assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Quincy and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Nicolaus will head out to square off against Nevada Union at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Quincy, they will venture away from home to challenge Modoc at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
