Basketball Game Preview: Coalgate Wildcats vs. Stonewall Longhorns

The Coalgate Wildcats will head out to square off against the Stonewall Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Coalgate took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Tishomingo as Coalgate made off with a 51-28 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 360th, while the Indians are ranked 126th).

Meanwhile, Stonewall had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 27-26 photo finish over the Tigers. The 27-point effort marked the Longhorns' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Stonewall pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.4 points per game. As for Coalgate, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10.

Coalgate took a serious blow against Stonewall in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 63-27. Can Coalgate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
