Wickenburg is 2-8 against Bagdad since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Wickenburg will welcome Bagdad at 3:45 p.m. Wickenburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.6 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Wickenburg didn't have quite enough to beat Phoenix Country Day and fell 8-7.
Wickenburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hazen Jones, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Jones also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Bagdad entered their tilt with St. David on Friday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Tigers. That's two games straight that the Sultans have won by exactly 11 runs.
Rowdy Hooper and Aaron Landers did most of the damage at the plate: Hooper went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Landers scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Those four RBI gave Hooper a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Wood, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Bagdad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. David only posted an OBP of .367.
Bagdad's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wickenburg, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wickenburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bagdad struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
