Basketball Recap: Waverly Falls Despite Big Games from Cooper Happold and Ashton Heffelfinger

Waverly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 61-48 to the Gretna Dragons. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-39 two weeks ago.

Despite the loss, Waverly had strong showings from Ashton Heffelfinger, who posted 13 points, and Cooper Happold, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Happold a new career-high in points. Carter McMillan was another key player, putting up five points.

Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Gretna, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waverly will venture away from home to face off against Mount Michael Benedictine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gretna, they will head out to take on Lincoln Northwest at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Gretna is facing Lincoln Northwest at the right time seeing as Lincoln Northwest is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
