Basketball Recap: Cienega Takes a Loss

Cienega was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a hard 50-35 fall against the Flowing Wells Caballeros. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Caballeros are ranked 45th).

Despite the loss, Cienega still got an impressive performance from Amaya Woolford, who posted four points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Woolford has become a key player for Cienega: the team is 6-3 when she posts at least three steals, but 4-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabel Elisea, who had ten points.

Nevaeh Urenda was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds for Flowing Wells. Those 15 boards gave Urenda a new career-high. Allison Verdugo was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Cienega's loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Flowing Wells, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-6.

Cienega has already played their next matchup, a 60-34 victory against Desert View on the 7th. As for Flowing Wells, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-41 defeat against Pueblo on the 7th.
