Basketball Recap: Traceson Skalberg's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Plattsmouth over Syracuse

If Plattsmouth was riding high fresh off their 66-38 takedown of Beatrice last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Plattsmouth Blue Devils took a 68-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Syracuse Rockets on Saturday. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Plattsmouth lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Traceson Skalberg, who went 8 for 19 on his way to 18 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Skalberg a new career-high. Derek Nanke was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.

Plattsmouth now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Syracuse, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

The future could be bright for both Plattsmouth and Syracuse: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Plattsmouth will look to extend Malcolm's three-game losing streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Syracuse will try to hand Louisville their fifth-straight defeat when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
