Football Recap: Willis Wildkats vs. New Caney Eagles
Willis put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the New Caney Eagles 69-21 at home. Considering the Wildkats have won five contests by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jack Emerson was his usual excellent self, throwing for 214 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Terri Lawrence, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Willis didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Luke Reynolds, Tyshon Nixon, and Kelan Harris picked up one apiece. Nixon also set a new season high mark in total tackles with six. De'Quentin Willis was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making 12 total tackles (4.0 for loss).
New Caney's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kendrick Mitchell, who gained 203 total yards and two touchdowns, and Corey Johnson, who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 59 yards.
Willis' victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for New Caney, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.
