Recap: Wells Leopards vs. McDermitt Bulldogs
The Wells Leopards suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. 2024 welcomed they with a 58-34 loss courtesy of McDermitt. Wells has struggled against McDermitt recently, as their game on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Wells had strong showings from Khloe DelRio, who scored 17 points, and Lillian Harney, who scored 12 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points DelRio has scored all season.
McDermitt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laeloni Tobey led the charge by scoring eight points along with six steals and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Tobey grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Vina Tom, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Wells' loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 6-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for McDermitt, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Coincidentally, Wells and McDermitt will both be playing Eureka the next time they take the court. Wells will host Eureka at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, while McDermitt will host them at 1:00 p.m. on January 19th.
