Football Game Preview: Allen Mustangs vs. Liberty Tigers

The Allen Mustangs will challenge the Liberty Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Allen will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Allen had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 40-point drubbing they dealt Central on Thursday. The Mustangs blew past the Tigers 40-0. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 22 points or more this season.

Allen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Davion Byrd, who rushed for 97 yards and one score on only ten carries, and also picked up 86 receiving yards and one TD. Those 97 rushing yards gave Byrd a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Quinton Box, who threw for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Allen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 281 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 257 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Allen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Noah Bray and Brax Wofford.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Liberty, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They walked away with a 20-12 win over Gore on Thursday.

Allen better keep an eye on Braylen Bear. He was instrumental in Liberty's win, throwing for 211 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 76.5% of his passes, and also rushing for 46 yards and one score.

Allen's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Liberty, their win bumped their record up to an identical 5-3.

Allen came up short against Liberty in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 26-16. Thankfully for the Mustangs, Jaylen Prestridge (who rushed for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
