Baseball Recap: Deer Valley Comes Up Short

Deer Valley had lost nine straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it ten. They lost 16-0 to the Pittsburg Pirates. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 6-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

As for Pittsburg, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Pittsburg's part, J'Marion Bella was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave Bella a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Santino Valle and Ty Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Valle got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Thompson went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Thompson has posted since back in March. Anthony Garcia was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

While Deer Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
