Softball Game Preview: Alpaugh Buffalos vs. Laton Mustangs

Alpaugh hasn't had much luck against Laton recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Buffalos will welcome the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. One thing working in Alpaugh's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.

On Wednesday, Alpaugh didn't have quite enough to beat Kings Christian and fell 19-18. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on April 8th (17), the Buffalos still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, Laton entered their tilt with Wonderful College Prep Academy on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They blew past the Lions 27-17. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly ten runs.

The team relied heavily on Madison Heffley, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camila Figueroa, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Laton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .775. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Laton pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 25.1 runs over those games. As for Alpaugh, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

Alpaugh took their victory against Laton in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 17-5 score. Do the Buffalos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
