After flying high against Lakewood Ranch last Tuesday, Tarpon Springs came back down to earth. The Tarpon Springs Spongers fell just short of the Palm Harbor University Hurricanes by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday. The Spongers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Dereck Tyler and Asa Merrills stepped up to the plate in a big way. Tyler scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Merrills scored two runs while going 2-for-2. What's more, Tyler posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Andres Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Tarpon Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Palm Harbor University, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.

Tarpon Springs wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-6 loss against Pinellas Park on the 28th. As for Palm Harbor University, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 5-0 defeat against Alonso on the 27th.
