Basketball Recap: Athens Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Athens extended their home winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from James Jones. The Athens Warriors skirted past the Delavan Panthers 62-59 thanks in part to Jones, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played.

Another player making a difference was Sawyer Hill, who posted 13 points and five steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.

Delavan's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kelton Nafzinger, who went 8 for 10 en route to 18 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Burrell, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 18 points and five assists.

Athens has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Delavan, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-14.

Athens didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-63 loss against Illini Bluffs on the 11th. As for Delavan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-36 defeat against Elmwood on the 13th.
