Softball Recap: Mechanicsville Mustangs vs. King George Foxes

Mechanicsville had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it four. They lost 9-1 to the King George Foxes. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their loss to the Foxes from their previous meeting back in March of 2023.

Mechanicsville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey McLaughlin, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for King George, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.

On King George's side, Kayla Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bella Intihar was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Mechanicsville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-6 victory against Freeman on the 30th. As for King George, they have also already played their next game, an 8-1 win against Culpeper County on the 29th.
