Football Recap: Jesuit Skates Past Cardinal Newman with Ease

While Jesuit put up some points on Friday, the same can't be said for Cardinal Newman. The Tigers blew past the Crusaders 31-0. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 31 points or more this season.

Leading Jesuit to victory were Hezekiah Davis and Will Griffin. Davis rushed for 141 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries, while Griffin threw for 201 yards and a pair of TDs. What's more, Griffin racked up 53 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. 82 of Griffin's passing yards were hauled in by Kaleb Smith, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Jesuit was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 207 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Jesuit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kam Housey and King Powell. Powell is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played. Jesuit got some further help from Rashaun Fitts Jr.: he made 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

Jesuit's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.0 points on average this season. As for Cardinal Newman, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Jesuit and Cardinal Newman will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Tigers see the field they'll take on University at 7:30 p.m. on October 3. As for Cardinal Newman, their break will end when they face Goleman at 7:00 p.m. on October 2.
