Basketball Game Preview: Grovetown Warriors vs. Archer Tigers

The Grovetown Warriors will head out to challenge the Archer Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Grovetown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Grovetown came up short against Newton and fell 51-42. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Rams are ranked 21st).

Despite their loss, Grovetown saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sanai McKenzie-Watson, who posted nine points, was perhaps the best of all. What's more, McKenzie-Watson also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Asunti Porter was another key player, putting up ten points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Archer). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 79-30 win over Heritage. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 21 points or more this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Archer and bumps their season record up to 16-2. As for Grovetown, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Grovetown was dealt a bruising 73-37 defeat at the hands of Archer when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Grovetown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
