Softball Game Preview: Notus Pirates vs. Idaho City Wildcats

Notus and Idaho City are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Pirates will challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Notus and Garden Valley meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Pirates came up short against the Wolverines, falling 22-13. The Pirates have struggled against the Wolverines recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Fatima Alvarez and Cierra Norris stepped up to the plate in a big way. Alvarez scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Norris scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. Norris has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Victoria Zamora was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Idaho City hadn't done well against Garden Valley recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over the Wolverines. Considering the Wildcats have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Notus' defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Idaho City, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Notus might still be hurting after the 33-2 loss they got from Idaho City in their previous matchup on Saturday. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
