Soccer Game Preview: Central Wise vs. Abingdon

The Central Wise Warriors will head out to challenge the Abingdon Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Wise's defense has only allowed 0.1 goals per game this season, so Abingdon's offense will have their work cut out for them.

While Central Wise's win against Gate City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday. The result kept Central Wise happy, as they haven't lost a game yet this season.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last match, Abingdon made sure to put some goals up on the board against Lee on Tuesday. They blew past the Generals 8-0. Given Abingdon's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Lee are ranked 294th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Abingdon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 25 goals over those five contests. As for Central Wise, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0-1.

Central Wise beat Abingdon by a goal in their previous matchup on April 1st, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
