Softball Game Preview: Buckhorn Bucks vs. Hazel Green Trojans

The Buckhorn Bucks will venture away from home to square off against the Hazel Green Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Buckhorn's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Mae Jemison 15-0. With that victory, the Bucks brought their scoring average up to 7.3 runs per game.

Chelsea Hindman looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andre-Ana Davis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Albrey Finey also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Buckhorn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hazel Green, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Madison County with a sharp 15-6 win on Monday. The Trojans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Hazel Green's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Buckhorn, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Buckhorn came up short against Hazel Green in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Can Buckhorn avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
