Softball Recap: Las Plumas Wins Going Away Against Corning

Las Plumas put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. They put the hurt on the Corning Cardinals with a sharp 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Thunderbirds, who have now won 19 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kendal Headley was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aeries Brewton was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Riley Gross also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Las Plumas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corning only managed two hits.

Las Plumas' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Corning, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

Las Plumas will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Oroville at 4:00 p.m. The Thunderbirds are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Corning, they will head out to square off against Live Oak at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
