Basketball Recap: Northfield Starts Season with Victory at Home

Northfield took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Mankato West Scarlets 76-45. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 76-45.

Callie Lynch was a one-woman wrecking crew as she went 7-for-13 on her way to 17 points along with seven steals and five assists. Those seven steals gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Mostad, who shot 50% from the field en route to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Northfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northfield will take on Owatonna at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mankato West, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Century at 7:30 p.m. on December 4.
