Basketball Game Preview: Walton Warriors vs. Oxford Academy Blackhawks

Walton and Oxford Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Walton Warriors will face off against the Oxford Academy Blackhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Walton will be strutting in after a victory while Oxford Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Walton turned things around against Unadilla Valley on Monday. They walked away with a 29-21 win over the Storm.

Walton's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Grace Walley, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 19 boards, and Kennedy Williams, who posted 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. That's the most rebounds Walley has posted since back in November of 2023.

Meanwhile, Oxford Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 43-25 to Delaware Academy. While losing is never fun, the Blackhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 166th).

Oxford Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Walton, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Walton and Oxford Academy were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but Walton came up empty-handed after a 29-28 defeat. Can Walton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
