Softball Game Preview: Canton Little Giants vs. Pearl City Wolves

The Canton Little Giants will square off against the Pearl City Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pearl City's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Canton hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Canton's pitcher stepped up to hand Richwoods a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The Little Giants haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Kambell McDermet, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Allison Wheeler was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Canton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richwoods only posted an OBP of .167.

Meanwhile, Pearl City came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Pretzels as they made off with an 8-0 win.

Freeport's batters probably weren't too happy with Mackenzie Lotz, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 16 Ks (she gave up five walks). Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Lotz.

At the plate, Kylie Campbell was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season.

Pearl City's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Canton, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .419. However, it's not like Pearl City struggles in that department as they've averaged .422. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
