Softball Game Preview: Manvel Mavericks vs. Alvin Yellowjackets

Manvel is 0-8 against Alvin since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mavericks will host the Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Manvel is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Sam Rayburn get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Friday. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Mariah Lantz looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Manvel got a massive performance out of Karsyn Carrier, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Carrier a new career-high. Kaylah Hopkins was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Manvel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .533 that Sam Rayburn posted.

Meanwhile, Alvin made easy work of Sam Rayburn on Tuesday and carried off a 16-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yellowjackets.

Manvel has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Alvin, they pushed their record up to 13-8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
