Preview: Osmond/Randolph Hawks vs. Winside Wildcats
Osmond/Randolph is 3-0 against Winside since December of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Osmond/Randolph Hawks on the road again and play against the Winside Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Hopefully Osmond/Randolph focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
Osmond/Randolph struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Osmond/Randolph took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard]. While losing is never fun, Osmond/Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] is ranked 39th).
Despite the defeat, Osmond/Randolph got a solid performance out of Sophie Gansebom, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Winside's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on January 5th after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Hartington-Newcastle on the road and fell 52-19. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Winside has suffered since December 1, 2023.
Hadleigh Schutt was Winside's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Osmond/Randolph bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Winside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Osmond/Randolph have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Winside, though, as they've been averaging only 28.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Osmond/Randolph against Winside in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 50-18 win. With Osmond/Randolph ahead 30-5 at the half, the match was all but over already.
