Baseball Recap: Timnath Triumphs

Timnath had lost three straight, but after bumping their record up to 5-6 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They won by a run and slipped past the Severance Silver Knights 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Cubs: when they faced off against the Silver Knights on Saturday, they had to take a 5-1 defeat.

Dane Wyman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Timnath's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Timnath's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Colten Poynter, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Severance, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-3. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

On Severance's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Hayden Crank gave up just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

Coincidentally, Timnath and Severance will both be playing Berthoud the next time they take the field. The Silver Knights will head out to face the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Cubs will head out to face them at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
