Baseball Recap: West Shamokin Gets the Win

West Shamokin proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 12) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the United Lions 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since March 13th.

Ben McConnell and Luke McCullough did most of the damage at the plate: McConnell scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while McCullough scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Geist, who scored three runs and stole two bases.

West Shamokin pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for United, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

West Shamokin will face off against Cambria Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Highlanders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Wolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for United, they will take on Purchase Line at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.75 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
